The ADAM questionnaire (Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male) is a simple 10-question screening tool used to flag possible symptoms of low testosterone. It asks about libido, energy, strength, mood and erections — each answered yes or no.
ADAM is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. It is designed to be sensitive — it catches most men who may have low testosterone — but it is not specific, meaning it also flags many men who turn out to have normal levels.
It does not measure testosterone. It cannot diagnose hypogonadism. A positive screen simply suggests it may be worth testing blood levels (total and free testosterone, ideally a morning draw) with a clinician.
Many symptoms — fatigue, low mood, reduced libido — have other causes: sleep deprivation, stress, thyroid issues, depression, medications. A thorough clinician will consider these before treating testosterone.
